CSRR Cementipede (Kit Version)

Description

One of the most unique models to operate on any model railroad, Canandaigua Southern’s articulated 200-Ton Cement Hopper CEMENTIPEDE is the height of “imagineering.” Designed and built by John Armstrong, the model was inspired by the Southern Railway’s Big John and Santa Fe’s Super Hopper. John “imagineered” the car using prototype design and construction practices. Always the punster, John named his creation “CEMENTIPEDE,” after its multi-truck articulation and cargo.

Working from John’s model and original drawings, the CEMENTIPEDE was reverse engineered by Jim King of Smokey Mountain Model Works using Solidworks CAD.  The introduction of FormLabs’ “Form 4” printer in 2024 allowed development of the model as a fully printed kit. Production began in November 2024 and are now available for sale.
